A Nairobi businessman, Eugene Musilwa Pedro, has been charged in court with allegedly obtaining Sh6.7 million from a South African gold buyer through pretense.
Eugene Musilwa Pedro on Thursday appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitumbi, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution told the court that between April 16 and 17, 2024, at Lenana Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, Musilwa, together with others not before the court, conspired to defraud Mnguni Mbulelo Ludgar of Sh6.7 million.
He is accused of falsely claiming that he was in a position to sell Ludgar 500 kilograms of gold nuggets worth Sh6,750,000, knowing that the information was untrue.
The businessman faces two counts: conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by pretense.
Magistrate Shitumbi granted him a bond of Sh2 million with an alternative cash bail of Sh1 million. The case will be mentioned on May 7 for pre-trial directions
